Occupation post secondary education teacher

Post secondary teachers instruct students in a wide variety of subjects at post-secondary educational institutes (e.g. higher vocational education, university etc.).

Tasks

• Prepare outlines for courses, including schedule and content of lectures, demonstrations, discussion groups, sessions and seminars.
• Prepare course materials, such as syllabi, assignments, hand outs and exams.
• Prepare class meetings (e.g. lectures, demonstrations, seminars, laboratory sessions).
• Teach classes using different teaching methods.
• Advise and assist students individually.
• Grade students' work, such as exams, assignments and papers.
• Supervise students' field work, internships, etc.
• Evaluate and report on student' performance and behaviour.
• Keep abreast of developments in their field, e.g. by reading current literature, talking with colleagues and participating in professional conferences.
• Participate in faculty meetings.
• Confer with work organisations to establish internships.
• Evaluate and, if necessary, revise curricula, course content, course materials, methods of instruction, etc.
