Occupation community or social service worker
Community and social service workers administer and implement a variety of social assistance programs and community services. They assist clients to deal with personal and social problems. They are employed by social service and government agencies, group homes, correctional facilities and other establishments.
Tasks
- Prepare intake records of clients
- Assess client, e.g. by gathering general background information
- Investigate clients' eligibility for social benefits, social programmes and community services
- Advise and assist recipients of social benefits
- Analyse clients' problems (financial, social and psychological) and develop strategies to solve them
- Provide counselling to clients
- Guide self-help groups to share experiences
- Assist community groups to plan and carry out self-help programmes
- Evaluate effectiveness of social programmes
- Consult and coordinate with the other professionals, such as other social service agencies
